Ellsworth didn't win a match in the opening round of the Middle Border Conference tournament Tuesday in Durand and was eliminated without scoring any points.

Andy Roland and Nick Rhiel came the closest to a victory, losing their No. 3 doubles match 7-6 (14), 6-3 to Cody Cernohous and Dillon Helgeson of Baldwin-Woodville.

“You go that far and you end up losing (the tiebreaker) by two points; after such a long set it’s tough to come back,” Panthers coach Casey Keller said.

Keller praised sophomore Mike Auckland for his play at No. 4 singles. After dropping the first set 6-0, Auckland played much better in the second set and lost 6-4.

Ellsworth's next match is Thursday at Baldwin-Woodville.
