Area baseball: Zumbrota-Mazeppa 9-12, Goodhue 1-0

Zumbrota-Mazeppa routed the Wildcats in both games of a doubleheader Friday in Goodhue.

Zumbrota-Mazeppa routed the Wildcats in both games of a doubleheader Friday in Goodhue.

"Zumbrota is a very, very talented team," Goodhue coach Eric Schofield said. "They hit the ball all over the place today."

In Game 1, Z-M tallied 11 hits and won 9-1. Ryan Paukert earned the victory. He struck out four and walked five in six innings of work. He was 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored, as was his teammate Zach VanOstrand.

In Game 2, the Cougars notched 12 hits. Goodhue had eight hits in the two games combined.

Josh Shirley picked up the win by striking out seven and walking three.

Paukert went 3-for-4 while his teammate Jordan Thompson was 2-for-3. Goodhue's Dustin Thomforde went 2-for-2.

The Wildcats dropped to 0-10 on the year. They play host to Kenyon-Wanamingo for a doubleheader on Tuesday. Z-M (12-2) travels to Triton for a double dip the same day.
