The Wildcats were expecting Kasson-Mantorville's standout pitcher Madison Damon to start Friday's road game, but Brooke Barrett got the nod instead.
Goodhue coach Chris Irvin noted that Damon throws about 20 mph faster than Barrett.
"It took us a couple innings to adjust," Irvin said.
The Wildcats tied the game at 2 in the top of the fourth, but Kasson-Mantorville took the lead in the bottom of the inning. Damon came in to pitch at that point and earned the save. She struck out all nine batters she faced.
"She's the real deal," Irvin said.
Anne Lodermeier pitched all six innings for Goodhue. She allowed two earned runs while striking out three and walking one.
"I've got to tip my hat to the senior pitcher we had," Irvin said. "She kept us in the game."
Goodhue (1-5 overall and Hiawatha Valley League) plays host to Hayfield on Monday.
