Goodhue coach Chris Irvin had his Wildcats arrive at Monday's home game an hour early to get in extra practice before the first pitch. Irvin credited Goodhue’s first win of the year to the additional preparation -- and the focus it provided.

"We knew we were a better team (than we were showing)," he said. "We just had to pull everything together."

Anne Lodermeier earned the win in the circle. She surrendered two hits and two walks in a complete-game effort. Heather Marking was tagged with the loss.

The only extra-base hit of the game came off the bat of Goodhue freshman Meredith Watson. She was 1-for-3 with a double. Lodermeier went 2-for-3 while teammate Meta Stern had one hit and two RBI.

Goodhue (1-4 overall, 1-4 Hiawatha Valley League) travels to Kasson-Mantorville on Tuesday while Lake City (1-6, 0-5) travels to Rochester Lourdes the same day.
