The Mississippi River near Red Wing is reaching its second crest, according to the National Weather Service.

The Mississippi River near Red Wing is reaching its second crest, according to the National Weather Service.

By Friday morning, the river had reached 14.72 feet. The water is expected to go down throughout the weekend and fall below flood stage by Monday night.

Flood stage is at 14 feet.

While flood waters this year were predicted to reach near record levels, cold weather and other factors mitigated flooding.

In Red Wing, Levee Road around Bay Point Park, Ikata Drive, East Fifth Street by Barn Bluff, Colvill Park and most of Bay Point Park will remain closed through the weekend. City staff will begin opening areas next week as the river recedes and cleanup is completed.

A flood warning from the NWS continues through Wednesday morning.
