LAKE CITY -- In spite of cold, windy and sometimes wet conditions Thursday at The Jewel Golf Club, Red Wing carded a 310 and beat the Tigers in a dual. Lake City shot a 345.

“We showed what we are capable of,” Wingers junior Matthew Petterson said.

Three Wingers shot in the 70s, including a career-best 74 (three-over par) from Petterson.

“He’s got quite a bit of game,” Red Wing coach Todd Petterson said of his son.

On the par-3 15th, Petterson displayed that game by hitting his tee shot within 5 feet of the pin and knocking in his putt for birdie.

Tanner Borgen carded a 77 for Red Wing while Blake Westerberg shot a 78. Alan Wedrickas’ 81 also counted in the team score.

Jack Falvey, a Lake City sophomore, tallied the best score for the Tigers. He shot an 84. Sam Klipfel (85), Cory Dick (87), and Jesse Oliver (89) also had their scores count for the team total.

“With this group of real young golfers … my goal was 350 or less,” Lake City coach Luther Berkeland said.

The Tigers didn’t have a junior compete and don’t have a senior on the roster.
