St. Croix River to crest today

The St. Croix River is expected to crest this afternoon.

The St. Croix River is expected to crest this afternoon in Afton.

According to he National Weather Service, at 11 a.m. the St. Croix River measured a height of 87.25 feet which is above flood stage of 87 feet. The river is expected to crest at 1 p.m. today at a height of 87.3 feet.

Initial predictions said the river would crest Friday at just over 88 feet.

This mark the second crest of the St. Croix River

The river will remain at 87.3 through Thursday morning before beginning to lower.

Afton’s flood preparations include 4,000 sandbags, 35 concrete barriers and two pumps.
