Nikki Pasch carded a 76 in Red Wing's season-opening match Tuesday at Mississippi National Golf Links and the Wingers comfortably defeated Hill-Murray.

"She just played fantastic," Red Wing coach Mark Herzog said.

Red Wing tallied a 326 while the Maplewood, Minn., school didn't have all of its golfers finish 18 holes. Handicaps were used to give Hill-Murray a 438. After nine holes, the Pioneers had a 221.

Herzog said he was happy with the play of his team in the first match of the year, but he added that his players weren't content.

"Overall, the girls thought on their home course they could have played better," Herzog said.

Katie Kesti shot an 82. Danielle Brooks, who played well despite a triple and quadruple bogey on her card, followed with an 84. Marisa Toivonen shot an 84. Ashley Brooks (85) and Anna Busch (92) also played for Red Wing.

The Wingers are next in action Monday at the TPC Twin Cities in Blaine.
