Area softball preview: Ellsworth Panthers

2010 record: 10-10 (10-5 Middle Border Conference)

Key returning players: Kayla Christopherson, Becca Chollett and Halle Hatch

The Panthers return three all-conference selections — Christopherson, Chollett and Hatch — but will start the season without the services of Mackenzie Diercks. The honorable mention all-conference selection is suffering from post-concussion syndrome.

“We hope to have her back later in the season,” Ellsworth coach Ryan Casper said.

Regardless, Ellsworth returns an experienced roster. Four freshman saw extensive playing time last year along with a core of seniors that have been starters for three or four years.

“I have high expectations for our players and they have high expectations for themselves,” Casper said.
