Alms set the Class A state meet record in the 500-yard freestyle, winning in 4 minutes, 39.02 seconds. It was one of five Class A state meet records set March 5 at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
In addition, Alms took third in the 200 freestyle. Alms touched the wall in 1:44.05 and missed out on a tie for second place by .01.
Alms was a member of both of the Red Wing relays that advanced to the second day of the state meet. He swam the third leg on the 200 free relay team that took fifth in a time of 1:29.28. Alms also swam the third leg on the 400 free relay team (11th, 3:21.58).
Alms was a big reason Red Wing finished ninth in the team rankings with 93 points.
