Super Bowl Sunday was a dream for Greg and Pam Roe, but it was nearly a nightmare.
The lifelong Green Bay Packer fans were in North Texas to see their team, in person, in the biggest game of the year. But the Roes were amongst the hundreds of fans who were told that despite having tickets to the big game in their hands they might not be allowed in.
"I was completely heartbroken. Mad," said Pam. "It was a feeling of disbelief."
When the Roes went through the gates at Cowboy Stadium in Arlington, Texas, they were informed that there were problems with their tickets and were sent to a holding area. The couple was then informed, via a letter, they wouldn't be getting into the game and would be reimbursed for three times the value of their tickets, Pam said.
"You're mad," Greg said. "Because here's a day you've been looking forward to for two weeks - and it would be like the best day ever."
Disappointed but determined, the couple wasn't going to sit passively by and watch their Super Bowl dreams go up in smoke. They decided to go to an ATM and look to buy tickets from scalpers.
But on their way out of the holding area, a stadium staff member encouraged them to hold out a little while longer. After some time they were told they would be admitted, but would have to exchange their tickets.
Pam said the couple walked around the stadium for two hours looking for where they could exchange their tickets before being told their original tickets would suffice.
Fortunately, the Roes were able to get in before the game started -- although many people in their section were denied entrance, Pam noted.
"We were just so thankful to be in there," Pam said, adding she again had a feeling of disbelief.
In the end, the Roes not only got into the game, they also got to witness the Packers win the Super Bowl.
As the confetti dropped on the stadium, Greg recalls thinking, "It was just like relief and ultimate satisfaction and disbelief. We are here and they did it."
