Love in the air

The smell of love is in the air as Valentine's Day approaches.

Sweet scents of creamy chocolates and sugared heart-shaped candies are iconic aromas of the charmed holiday, however the simple power of the flower has continuously tantalized nostrils since the formation of the annual celebration.

Roses have traditionally symbolized the meaning of love and have been the most demanded flower for the holiday.

With more than 180 million roses being given to loved ones across the nation annually, according to the floral industry, the traditional gift is still sweeping feet and swooning hearts.

"Nothing says, 'I love you,' better than roses," said Judy Bostrom of Hallstrom's Florist and Greenhouse.

Although red roses remain the most popular color, the options for the perfect flower are endless.

"Roses now come in many, many new colors and variations," Bostrom said, "Giving your sweetheart a dozen red, yellow or mixed roses is a beautiful romantic tradition symbolizing your love."
