Patrick Edward Gadient, age 23, of Mazeppa, died in a motor vehicle accident on Thursday, Feb. 3.

A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 7, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Goodhue with the Reverend Andy Krause officiating. Visitation will be held from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, and 1 hour prior to the service, all at the church. Burial will be in Mazeppa Cemetery.

Patrick Edward Gadient was born on Nov. 28, 1987, in Rochester, Minn., to Edward and Amy (Dicke) Gadient. He was baptized on Dec. 11, 1987, at Grace Lutheran Church in rural Goodhue and was later confirmed on May 19, 2002, at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota. Patrick graduated from Mazeppa–Zumbrota High School in 2006. After graduation, he attended the UW–Stout and UW-River Falls. He was enrolled at Dakota County Technical College in the electrician program. He worked for 2 years at Gadient Brothers Construction Company in Red Wing. He was employed at Von Knobelsdorf Electric Company in rural Goodhue as an electrician and helped his dad, Ed, with farming. In September 2010 Patrick asked Briana Darcy for her hand in marriage.

Patrick was a humble person with a big smile and an even bigger heart. He enjoyed being out in nature, which included: hunting, fishing trips to Canada, planting trees, and taking walks. Patrick also enjoyed learning, fixing and building things, and lending a helping hand to those in need. He especially enjoyed his time playing basketball with his brother, Kurt, playing and watching baseball, and spending time with family and friends, especially Briana.

Patrick is survived by his parents, Ed and Amy Gadient of Mazeppa; his paternal grandmother, Patricia Gadient of Goodhue; his siblings, Jill Gadient of Rochester, Karen (Markus) Lang of Rochester, and Kurt Gadient of Mazeppa; his fiancée, Briana Darcy of Mazeppa; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Virgil and Gertrude Dicke; his paternal grandfather, Paul Gadient; uncle Jim Schumacher; and cousin, Tim Miller.
