Church Basement Ladies return'A Second Helping' will be staged twice on Jan. 28 at the Sheldon.
The year is 1969 and the world is a changing.
As folks protest the Vietnam War and women are demanding equal pay for equal work, the ladies of the Lutheran Church basement kitchen deal with changes of their own. And humor rules as these women cook meals for various church functions.
"Church Basement Ladies 2: A Second Helping!" will take audiences from the Luther League banquet to the rise and fall of a Vikings Super Bowl Sunday when the play is staged twice Jan. 28 at the Sheldon Theatre.
Show times are 2 and 7 p.m.
From the elderly matriarch of the kitchen to the young mom-to-be, the women find strength in each other as they deal with the joys and upheavals in their rural Minnesota house of God.
The musical comedy is courtesy of Jim Stowell and Jessica Zuehlke, who have Red Wing connections. Music and lyrics are by Drew Jansen. The musical is based on the humorous novel "Growing Up Lutheran," by Janet Letnes Martin and Suzann Nelson.
