Letter: Board should respect ordinance

Goodhue County Commissioner Ron Allen wrote an excellent letter to the editor (R-E, Dec. 1)

To the Editor:

Goodhue County Commissioner Ron Allen wrote an excellent letter to the editor (R-E, Dec. 1) regarding the county’s new wind ordinance and the letters Commissioners Richard Samuelson, Dan Rechtzigel and Jim Bryant sent to the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission individually — and not as a County Board — following the passage of that ordinance.

As County Attorney Betcher commented earlier, the County Board needs to stand firm so not to affect the credibility of its wind ordinance.

Commissioners Allen and Ted Siefert have played by the rules.

A majority vote (including that of Samuelson) passed the new wind ordinance in October.

Now the County Board needs to respect the majority vote and support it, not undermine it, because the wind developers want a “compromise.”
