Christian youth hoops, cheerleading programs launched

Upward Basketball and Cheerleading, a non-denominational Christian sports program, is hosting evaluations and orientation in Red Wing beginning Tuesday. Basketball participants receive equal playing time and compete against an evenly matched opponent.

Upward Basketball and Cheerleading, a non-denominational Christian sports program, is hosting evaluations and orientation in Red Wing beginning Tuesday. Basketball participants receive equal playing time and compete against an evenly matched opponent.

The program is open to children in kindergarten through sixth grade. Children interested in participating in the new sports ministry can attend one of the evaluation and orientation sessions. They will be held at New River Assembly of God Church, 240 Spates Ave., at the following dates and times:

• 6-8 p.m. Tuesday

• 6-8 p.m. Thursday

• 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Dec. 4

Early registration costs $50. Registration after Dec. 4 costs $60. The registration deadline is Jan. 3. Practices begin Jan. 10. Teams practice one day per week for an hour. The first game is Jan. 29.
