Column: Join the REaders Board
Just about everyone, everywhere you go, has an opinion about their community's newspaper.By: Anne Jacobson, The Republican Eagle
Just about everyone, everywhere you go, has an opinion about their community's newspaper Here, we have a group dedicated to sharing those views with us.
The Republican Eagle created the REaders' Board in 2004 as one way to engage our regular readers and reach out the community. The 10 board members help assess how the news, advertising and print staffs are doing. The volunteers also share story ideas.
The end result, we think, is a stronger local news organization.
The R-E is again looking for five area residents to serve on the board for one year. They will join five people who are midway through their terms.
Departing members are Muriel Henderson, Paul Irwin, Emily Nelson, Theresa Luther-Dolan and Gary Iocco. Remaining members are Tilton Davis, Ron Herbst, Bunny Petersen, Jo Seton and Julie Winger.
The board meets the first Monday of each month. We provide the lunch; members provide the feedback.
This is an "equal opportunity" board. Open to anyone regardless of race, age, gender, ethnic background, sexual orientation or political persuasion — subscribers and non-subscribers alike.
One of the board's regular duties is to help us honor people who submit letters to the editor. Each month, the board considers nominees for the Golden Quill.
If you are interested in serving as a sounding board of public opinion, consider joining the board. Send us your name, address and telephone number or e-mail address. You can reach us at R-E, Box 15, Red Wing, Mn 55066; 651-301-7870 or letters @republican-eagle.com.
With help from REaders' Board members, we continue striving to improve.
