Office of Civil Rights committee established
: As part of an agreement between the district and the U.S. Department of Education Office of Civil Rights, an advisory committee has been formed.
The committee, comprising students, educators, a parent and other community members, is in place to promote the district's anti-harassment program. Supt. Stan Slessor on Monday said the group's first meeting fostered "a real openness."
"This group is saying, 'We can always get better,'" he said.
The agreement between the district and OCR was reached following a complaint related to an unsanctioned 2009 student event that roiled members of Red Wing's black community.
:Board approves contract for directors
: The contract for Red Wing School District's top directors was approved Monday by School Board members.
The group will receive a 1.95 percent cost of living raise and a .8 percent stipend. Insurance contributions for the group will be 0 percent under the $350/$700 deductible plan.
The supervisors and directors group includes Instructional Services Director Kathy Radmer, Facilities and Grounds Director Kevin Johnson, Food Service Director Julie Haase, Arena Maintenance Director Todd Lillico, Community Education Director Dawn Wettern and Athletic Director Matt Schultz.

: Red Wing School Board members on Monday approved the following personnel changes.
New hire: Sharon Davis, special education assistant at Red Wing High School, effective Oct. 25; Kristina Larson, special education assistant at Burnside Elementary, effective Nov. 17; Susan Bergquist, special education assistant at high school, effective Nov. 8; Merri Claridge, special education assistant at Sunnyside Elementary, effective Nov. 1; Christopher Bonde, math tutor at high school, effective Nov. 8; Emily Christianson, math tutor at Tower View Alternative School, effective Nov. 8; Chris Riley, .664 FACS long-term substitute at high school, effective Oct. 13 to Nov. 12; Samantha Maness, assistant lead, Kids Junction at Burnside, effective Oct. 27; Nicole McQuiston, assistant lead, Kids Junction at Sunnyside, effective Nov. 8; Valerie Fox, cook at high school, effective Nov. 10; Catherine Smith, cook at Twin Bluff Middle School, effective Dec. 6.
