Hoping to take advantage of an early retirement announcement, Red Wing School Board members plan to name Supt. Stan Slessor's successor by late February.
If the board can follow a timeline given tacit approval Monday, the plan would put Red Wing about four months ahead of competing districts also looking to hire new superintendents.
School Board member Dennis Porter noted that since most superintendents announce retirement in January, that gives Red Wing the edge in what he said is normally a six-month process.
Supt. Stan Slessor announced his retirement earlier this month.
"We're really in pretty good shape for a major search," Porter said at Monday's board meeting.
The next step will be deciding whether to hire a search firm to assist in the hiring process. The district’s Personnel Committee will screen three search firms Thursday, School Board Chairwoman Heidi Jones said.
The committee could make its recommendation in time for a full board decision by its Nov. 15 meeting, she said. The panel will consider cost and services offered, she said.
