Sophomores Kennedy Kowalchyk and Cassie Lofgren each earned second-team all-conference honors Thursday in leading the Panthers to a fifth-place finish at the Middle Border Conference meet.

"Fifth place, that was kind of disappointing for them," Ellsworth coach Jon Dodge said. "We were a few points here or there from being in third place."

Osceola finished third in the seven-team field with 79 points. New Richmond won with 58 points.

Kowalchyk completed the course in Amery, Wis., in a time of 17 minutes, 6.7 seconds and placed eighth. Lofgren placed five spots back in a time of 17:27.4.

The Panthers didn't have a runner pick up an all-conference honor a season ago.

Ellsworth is back in action Oct. 23 at the Division 2 sectional in Arcadia, Wis.
