Letter: Kelly has witnessed what works

To the Editor:

In recent weeks, a number of county residents have written to the editor supporting various candidates for Goodhue’s next sheriff. Differing opinions regarding experience and qualifications are driving the debate.

Both remaining candidates have served the local communities passionately throughout their careers; however, Marty Kelly brings a different kind of experience to the table. Marty’s 21 years of involvement in a variety of law enforcement fields have given him firsthand knowledge of which procedures work effectively. Simply put, Marty has seen policies that reduce crime and increase safety while he has also witnessed failed initiatives. Marty has hands on real-world experience and knowledge about successful law enforcement tactics.

Marty’s knowledge of effective law enforcement practices will allow him to work closely with his administrative team and effectively spend public funding. While this type of fiscal responsibility allows our dollars to touch more lives, Marty is also dedicated to improving communication.

I believe Marty is committed to public service and understands that great public servants are in touch with the needs of community members. As his experience shows, Kelly is the candidate prepared to listen to our concerns and lead the sheriffs department.
