There won't be a parade this year, but Red Wing High School's 2010 Homecoming will feature some new events, including jousting and tailgating.

Events begin Monday, with coronation at 1:45 p.m. in the gym. Monday also is formal dress day.

Activities resume Friday, beginning with a pep fest in the gym from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m.

Friday - which is school spirit day - continues with activities from 11:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m., including archery and scrapbooking.

From 2 to 6 p.m., there will be inflatable jousting and a "bungee run" in the parking lot.

There will be tailgating for students beginning at 4 p.m. in the parking lot. Grills and will be provided, but students must bring their own food to cook.

Red Wing High School teacher Shelley Orr said the parade was swapped out this year for tailgating due to diminishing participation. She said there was much more interest in the tailgating event.

The homecoming football game will be preceded by the Red Wing cross country meet and the 10th-grade football game. Royalty candidates and parents will be introduced at the game.

The eighth- and ninth-grade dance will follow the game until 11 p.m. in the high school's Courtyard Café. Admission is $5, and students must present IDs. No upper classmen will be allowed.

The formal dance for sophomores, juniors and seniors will be from 8 to 11 p.m. at the Courtyard Café. Admission is $8.
