Game recap: The Blue Devils burst out to an early lead — scoring five touchdowns in the first quarter — en route to an easy win over New Auburn in South Lakeland Conference play.
"It was just a mass of big plays," Plum City Coach Troy Ingli said. "Before you blinked it was 21-0."
Two punt returns for scores and three passing touchdowns by senior quarterback Alex Gilles accounted for the Blue Devils' first quarter scoring. From there the rout was on. New Auburn notched its three scores in the final frame.
Ingli said New Auburn is a young team which struggled to contain the Blue Devils' skill position players.
The game marked the Blue Devils 47th consecutive regular season win, according to Ingli.
Difference maker: Speed.
"They had a hard time with our speed," Ingli said. "We were pretty explosive."
Top players: Junior halfback Chase Luebker returned a pair of punts — one from 67 yards and one from 68 — to spark the Blue Devils runaway win.
Gilles also had a stellar performance, completing 8 of 11 passes for 156 yards and tossing four touchdowns.
Next up: Plum City (4-0 overall, 2-0 conference) plays at Lake Holcombe Friday.
