Letter: Stop teachers who bully

Who are the real “bullies” in our school?

By: Nicole A. Oberg-Peters. Hager City, The Republican Eagle

To the Editor:

Who are the real “bullies” in our school?

As another new school year arrives, do we know who is teaching our children? Are they being treated with respect by their teacher and the staff who support them every day at school?

I strongly urge all parents to listen to their children; ask them questions about their day and do not accept one-word responses.

We have some very, very wonderful teachers in the local school districts and I am very grateful for each and every one of them.

We also have some teachers who have been bullying our children for way too long. Yelling, screaming, belittling or worst yet — physical abuse; it is not acceptable.

We should not have to put up with this because someone is a staff member. Teachers should have to treat our children the same way society expects us as parent to treat them.

I also encourage parents who have an issue with a person in our schools to write letters to your school principals and superintendents.

A simple phone call or meeting does not ensure the issue has been taken care of or that it was documented in a personnel file. I also urge you to follow up on all complaints you file with the district.

We need to protect our children from all the “bullies” at school.
