To the Editor:
Law enforcement is a rewarding and yet challenging field. Those of us who have the privilege of working within it know the effect it can sometimes have on its officers. The burden of seeing people at their lowest points, seeing the violence, anger and pain that they deliver upon themselves and others can make a person cynical and bitter.
However there are also officers that consistently rise to the occasion and lead by an example of enthusiasm and positive attitude. Those of us who have worked with Marty Kelly can tell you this makes all the difference in your job and the service you provide to your community.
Each shift he begins with a grin and a cry of “Game on boys!” He is a boss that you work shoulder to shoulder with. He’s the boss out in the squad car or more often than not out on the bicycle or walking the beat, not the boss hiding behind the office door.
It’s a hard endorsement for me to make because I don’t want to see him leave the police department, but our loss is the county’s gain. There is no better cop for the job. Vote Marty Kelly for sheriff.
