Letter: Hove isn’t a fiscal conservative
Council member Dean Hove has a problem.By: Jack Byrne, Red Wing, The Republican Eagle
To the Editor:
Council member Dean Hove has a problem.
He states he has saved the citizens of Red Wing many tax dollars. Yet he voted to spend $400,000 to fight our city’s largest taxpayer. This effort thus far appears to have failed.
He also voted to purchase the land on Mt. Carmel in an amount well over a million dollars.
He also voted to purchase three lots on Spring Creek Road when the city needed only one.
At a recent budget meeting he stated he was for remodeling city hall and the public works building for roughly $500,000, adding that sometimes you have to spend money to save money. He did not state how much the savings would be.
Without checking, he voted to accept a large amount to extend a trail, which project has now proven to be unlikely. The city will likely now be obligated to reimburse the donor.
Hove has tried to give the impression he is a fiscal conservative, which he is not.
I would encourage voters in Wards 1 and 2 to take a good look at John Sachen and the thoughtful and civil way he represented the people in your wards in the efforts to overturn the hastily made decision by the council regarding the purchase of that land. John Sachen will represent you well.
