Lutheran Social Service awards handed out

A number of Red Wing residents have received the Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota's Spirit Award. This year, 100 of the 2,300 employees at LSS were selected to receive the award.

A number of Red Wing residents have received the Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota's Spirit Award. This year, 100 of the 2,300 employees at LSS were selected to receive the award.

Red Wing recipients include: Kim Harvey, Kacie Korsten, Sarah Lien, Michael Martin, and Denese Renee Vanberg.

"LSS staff who win the coveted LSS Spirit Award are nominated by their peers and supervisors," said Mark Peterson, LSS president and CEO. "The Spirit Award winners demonstrate the finest of LSS' values. I am delighted to be their colleague in this organization that is grounded in compassion and competence."

Spirit Award winners were honored and recognized at an awards luncheon Aug. 20.

• The Ohio Valley Refinery and Roadshow has made its way to Red Wing.

The event allows local residents to sit with experts from around the world and sell their antiques, collectibles and other items to the collectors.

The event is being held daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Friday and will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Country Inn and Suites, 4275 Highway 61. The International Collectors Association is sponsoring the event.

• Larson Boats has added River Valley Power & Sports to its dealer network.

"We felt that it was time for us to jump in the marine business with both feet" said John Wooden, president/owner of River Valley Power & Sports.

• A new yarn and craft shop -- What in Yarnation -- has opened in Cannon Falls.
