Letter: Hove pledges to follow lessons from lean times

Red Wing is moving forward with the strong leadership we deserve. Our 2010 budget was balanced without raising taxes.

To the Editor:

Red Wing is moving forward with the strong leadership we deserve. Our 2010 budget was balanced without raising taxes. As a result, our economy is stronger, hundreds of new jobs have been created, and government is smaller.

Lower taxes have allowed senior citizens to stay in their homes, taken financial pressure off families, and helped young people buy their first house.

The recession has given us the chance to re-evaluate what is really important to our families. The new priorities have found their way into the current budget dialogue, including discussions on which city expenditures serve the greatest good — and which spending really fills a need.

My vision for our future reflects the new, more frugal, innovative, values-based goals of our residents. I know how deeply Red Wing residents care about leaving our children and grandchildren the same safe, beautiful community we grew up in — with opportunities that will allow them to stay here.

Red Wing’s economy is looking up. Revenues will increase and the pain of budget cuts will fade.

If I am re-elected, I will make sure the lessons of these lean times stay with our City Council for the next four years.
