Letter: Kelly has hands-on experience

To the Editor:

I could not agree more with Mr. Gedrose’s (R-E. July 28) letter to the editor that there are good candidates running for sheriff. However, I couldn’t disagree more with what constitutes experience in looking for the next sheriff.

The sheriff’s role is not strictly an administrative position, but rather to be a leader. In the role of Goodhue County sheriff, a good leader will use a solid administrative team, but needs the experience of being on the streets to know what challenges the communities face on a daily basis.

Marty Kelly’s education and 21 years of hands-on experience makes him the most qualified candidate to run the Goodhue County sheriff’s department. Vote Marty Kelly for sheriff on Aug. 10.
