A garage outside of Lake City erupted into flames this morning, after a Chevy Blazer with a leaking gas tank caught fire, according to witnesses at the scene.
A worker in the garage -- owned by auto derby company Impact Motorsports Promotions -- was repairing the vehicle when an extension cord shorted and caused the vehicle to catch fire, according to Jessie Krier, who works for IMP.
The Lake City Fire Department arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire. No injuries were reported.
IMP, owned by Steve Heitman and Jay Anderson of Lake City, runs auto derbies throughout the state, including the annual derby at the Goodhue County Fair. Two other vehicles in the garage at the time of the fire were not damaged.
