Letter: Sachen has leadership qualities

To the Editor:

In the next few years Red Wing will undertake a very difficult challenge with significant revenue reduction. John Sachen has recently demonstrated that he possesses the leadership qualities that can help Red Wing succeed.

He accepted a lead role in the recent issue of the disposal of sludge from the waste treatment plant. The problem was complex and the proposed solution to buy property in the Mount Carmel area to use for spreading sludge did not set well with neighbors.

John worked with Public Works Department experts and discovered a potential interim solution that would save the city about $1.5 million, money that can be used to help achieve a long-term solution.

As the spokesperson for the neighborhood, John used his skills at meetings with the City Council, the City Planning Commission and the Sustainability Committee.

His efforts helped foster an atmosphere of openness and respect, and cultivated an understanding of his interim solution. A decision was reached that was favorable and beneficial for Red Wing.

I urge everyone to support and vote for John Sachen for City Council. We need individuals like John to help guide the city through the enormity of challenges that lie ahead.
