12U Purple swept by Rochester, Zumbrota

The Red Wing 12U Purple softball team played solid defense and manufactured some runs, but it still dropped four home games last week.

The Red Wing 12U Purple softball team played solid defense and manufactured some runs, but it still dropped four home games last week.

In the doubleheader against the Rochester Wolves, Jenna Peterson, Mackenzie Cota, Hailey Englund and Ashlyn Daly each had a hit and scored a run.

Lindsey Guse struck out six and gave up two hits in the opener against the Wolves, while Peterson struck out five in the night cap's 7-8 loss.

On Thursday, the Zumbrota Sting came to Red Wing and beat Red Wing 10-0 in the first game. Daly had Red Wing's only hit of the game.

Red Wing committed only one error in the second game against the Sting and lost 2-1. Hannah Kuhl led off the second inning with a double, advanced to third on a slap bunt by Hannah Bystrom and scored her team's only run on a passed ball.

Defensively, Molly Goranson and Sydney Book had unassisted double plays.
