18U softball team takes fourth

The Red Wing 18U softball team went 1-4 at the Millpond Tournament in Baldwin, Wis., and finished fourth.

Red Wing's lone win came against Colfax in bracket play and was by a score of 3-0. Morgan Bohmbach registered 15 strikeouts and no walks in the shutout. Bohmbach only allowed four hits in the game.

Bohmbach pitched all five games for Red Wing on Saturday and Sunday. She had a total of 40 strikeouts, four walks and 12 earned runs in 33 innings.

In the Colfax game, Red Wing was led by Meleta Schuetzle. She scored two runs and picked up a hit. Ellie Anderson and Lauren Gernentz were others to get hits in the game.

Red Wing lost the opener to St. Croix 5-2. Bohmbach, Kailey Laqua, Schuetzle and Sarah Walch picked up hits.

In the second game, Red Wing lost to Baldwin-Woodville 6-0. Laqua, Walch, and Alexa Wasmund were the only players to get hits for Red Wing.

Red Wing lost a rematch with St. Croix 5-1 in the second bracket game Sunday. Tescha Siewert was 2-for-2 with a double.

In the final game, Red Wing played Baldwin-Woodville again and dropped the third-place game 6-1. Siewert picked up her second double of the day.

Red Wing dropped to 3-10 on the season. It's next game is July 6 at Winona.
