Game recap: The host Pirates collected 24 hits -- including 10 extra-base hits -- to route the Skeeters on Saturday.
“It was like a softball game for them,” said Hager City player/manager Cory Brathall, adding, “Our outfielders got a workout today running back to the fence every other pitch.”
Wyatt Rowe suffered the loss. He pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed 13 runs. However, only four were earned.
Difference maker: Hager City hasn’t had its starting lineup the past couple weeks and that was again the case against the Pirates as only 11 Skeeters made the trip to Prescott. As a result, outfielder Ross Sweig got the start at third.
Sweig was charged with a throwing error with two outs in the second and the Pirates would go onto score 10 more runs that inning.
Top players: Chase Melstrom had a double and an RBI for Hager City. Teammate Tyler Regnier singled and scored in the fourth.
Next up: Hager City (2-9 overall, 1-5 St. Croix Valley League) at Elmwood, 1 p.m. today
