One of the compelling faces in ABC-TV's new Sunday night drama, "Scoundrels," will be a familiar one - or two.
Red Wing's Patrick John Flueger stars in the summer series, which makes its debut at 8 p.m. Sunday, as two of the lead characters.
He appears as both Cal and Logan West, identical twins who are as opposite as day and night, according to his manager.
"Flueger plays both roles seamlessly and flawlessly - the rugged, rebel-with-a-cause, small-time criminal Cal West as well as the conservative, classy Logan West, a recent graduate of law school," his character bio says.
"Scoundrels" is the story of a family of small-time criminals, the Wests. According to an ABC synopsis, they are forced to change their lifestyle after the man of the house, Wolfgang "Wolf" West (played by David James Elliott), gets sent to the "big house" for four years.
"Cheryl, loving mother and devoted wife (played by Virginia Madsen), will do everything she can to keep her family together and on the straight and narrow," the synopsis says. She decides it's time for them to get out of the family business altogether.
"However, it'll prove a challenging task for every member of the family, since a life of crime is all they've known."
Flueger's character Logan West is an attorney with the Selden-Carter law firm. ABC Studios describes him as "an identical twin yet the odd man out, Logan struggles to find his place in the West family. Having utilized the intelligence and motivation that evaded his brother Cal, Logan strayed from 'the family business' to become the exact opposite: a lawyer."
Family dynamics are key.
"Wolf views Logan's defection to the honest side of the law as a slap in the face - but to Cheryl, he's a shining example of what her family can accomplish. While his siblings would probably call Logan a mama's boy, underneath the brains and charm, and no matter how hard he fights it, he's still a West," the bio says.
Calvin "Cal" West "is certainly his father's son and works alongside Wolf in the family business. He may not be the smartest of the bunch, but what Cal lacks in brains, he more than makes up for in spirit, according to ABC.
"Cal appreciates the simpler things in life: beer, babes and his bros, Cruz and Billy. With changes around the West house afoot, he's the most likely to buck against his mom's new rules and, now that Dad's gone, he's going to try to provide for the family the only way he knows how."
The West family also includes two daughters: Heather, played by Leven Rambin, and Hope, played by Vanessa Marano.
The series, based on a popular New Zealand series titled "Outrageous Fortune," was filmed in Albuquerque, N.M. Flueger currently lives in the Los Angeles area.
