Patrons of the Red Wing YMCA will notice some sprucing up going on this summer.
The YMCA building is set to undergo a set of substantial upgrades, including improving facility’s locker rooms, purchasing new workout equipment and revamping a pool, Executive Director Mike Melstad said.
The project will help the organization meet its goals, he said.
“We will bring more people to a healthy, vigorous lifestyle because of it Melstad said.
There also will be improvements to the building’s heating and ventilation systems, Melstad said, which will make the locker rooms more hospitable.
“The whole experience in there is going to be improved,” he said.
Board member Steve O’Keefe said the YMCA recognized the need to focus on maintenance and upgrades.
“It’s been about 10 years since we did a remodel,” O’Keefe said, adding the organization has remodeled the building about once every decade.
The board has been working to create a long-term maintenance plan and in doing so came up with a long list of potential upgrades.
Melstad said the board decided to get the ball rolling by taking a big chunk off the list, around a third of it, this year.
The projects will serve to boost what Melstad considers a YMCA building that is the best in the state. He credited the board, the trustees, and the community at large for investing in organization.
