A Frontenac woman was seriously injured after the ATV she was riding on Saturday in Florence Township struck a railroad crossing arm and launched her into the path of a moving train.
June Rahier, 49, was in fair condition Monday morning at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, a hospital spokeswoman said. The driver of the ATV, Timothy Jonas, 36, Frontenac, was seen and dismissed at St. Marys.
Goodhue County Sheriff's deputies said the crash occurred at 9:05 p.m. when the ATV came up a ditch and approached the railroad crossing arm near County Road 2 and Highway 61. The ATV struck the crossing arm and ejected Rahier, who was airlifted from the scene.
Jonas was first being taken to Lake City Area Hospital before being airlifted to St. Marys.
Neither ATV rider was wearing a helmet, a sheriff's spokeswoman said. She said testing was under way to determine if alcohol played a role in the crash.
