To the Editor:
All this bickering about wind power coming to Goodhue County is making me sick. We have much better issues to focus on.
For instance why the conventional sources of power, the carbon polluters who are dumping 90 mega tons of CO2 into our atmosphere daily, do not want us to create green power alternatives. Why have these polluters funded massive disinformation campaigns designed to divide and conquer us, the opposition to their juggernaut of coal and oil power?
Now is the time for wresting control from these who seek more record profits at the expense of Mother Earth. The U.S. Senate is currently debating Cap and Trade for carbon emissions. A cap-and-trade system limits (caps) the amount of greenhouse gas emissions that can be released into the atmosphere by establishing a pollution permit program and allowing emitters to reduce emissions or trade permits to meet compliance requirements.
A properly designed cap-and-trade system should have greenhouse gas reductions targets that are consistent with the reductions scientists tell us are needed to avoid catastrophic climate change and should include mechanisms to protect consumers from any associated cost impacts.
We need this now because until now carbon emissions have been free. That is there is no cost to the power company for them.
Now we know for fact that our wasteful and reckless practice from the 20th century of burning our carbon resources is harming our planet; perhaps beyond repair. That is an enormous cost which until now we have been ignoring.
It is time to wake up, America! We have been lied to by a bunch of greedy ruthless fat cats who have virtually unlimited resources to create so called scientific studies to support their way of life. Their propaganda is on the scale of the tobacco industry’s lies of the last 50 years. Global warming is real.
Please join me in contacting our congress people and senators to let them know we support cap and trade and other green alternatives for our Earth. For more information, check out RepowerAmerica.org.
