Authorities have a suspect in a string of property damage complaints in rural Goodhue County.

Goodhue County sheriff's deputies were called early Saturday morning to the Mark Comstock residence in West Concord for reports of a damaged mailbox. Officers caught up with a suspect vehicle later on County Road 1 and stopped an 18-year-old male. Inside the rural Kenyon man's vehicle, officers found baseball bats with paint transfer and chunks missing.

Dozens of mailboxes have been destroyed in recent weeks. Officers said there may be a competition between students at two schools to see who can inflict more damage.

The suspect told officers the damage found on the bats was from hitting rocks. Also inside the vehicle was a cast-iron cow that matched a similar ornament missing from another damaged mailbox.

The male was not arrested and the cases remain under investigation.
