The Red Wing Weightlifting Club’s Jared Youmans set a Minnesota record in the 56-kilogram body weight class to win a state weightlifting championship and qualify for the national tournament.
Youmans, 20, lifted a total of 158 kg — he snatched 70 kg and clean and jerked 88 kg — to break the old mark.
It was Youman’s first state championship.
The national tournament runs June 11-13 in Peoria, Ill.
Youmans and four or five other Minnesota weightlifters will compete at the national tournament, according to club coach John Drewes.
Youmans’ younger brother, Jordan, won the Red Wing club’s second state title.
He came in first in the 69-kg bodyweight class.
Fellow club entrants Simon Klimesh (77-kg body weight class) and Andy Robinson (94 kg) both placed fourth.
