Soaring high: Southeastern Minnesota was introduced to disabled hockey Saturday at Bergwall Arena thanks, in part, to the generosity of the Prairie Island Indian Community. Prairie Island's donation to Disabled Hockey in Minnesota helped buy the sleds and equipment the players use. Special and stand-up amputee athletes will be on the ice at 4:30 p.m. A sled hockey exhibition will be played an hour later.
The event will double as a teaser for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Paralympics. Sled hockey (called ice sledge hockey outside the United States) is one of five sports that will be contested at the games that begin March 13.
