Vern Bissonette doesn't know the man accused of poaching a world-class eight point buck, but that didn't keep him from attending the suspect's hearing Thursday in Goodhue County.

Bissonette, of Bloomington, Minn., traveled here with his son Raymond to get a closer look at the case he called "very disturbing."

"This is such a flagrant violation, I figured we've to come down and see the outcome," he said of the case against Troy Alan Reinke, the Cannon Falls man accused of poaching three deer, including what many believe to be the world's largest-ever eight-point buck.

While the final outcome won't be for months yet, the Bissonettes were witness to the latest development in the state's case against Reinke: charges that he shot the buck with a firearm in bow season, a gross misdemeanor.

Reinke entered a not guilty plea at the hearing.

In addition to 13 other poaching-relating counts, Reinke now is charged with taking big game out of season - a gross misdemeanor - and two misdemeanor counts of unlawful possession of wild animals.
