Rick Lee Alms of Milpitas, Calif., passed away on Dec. 21, in Santa Clara, Calif.
He was born Jan. 8, 1956, to Gerald and Betty (Zorn ) Alms in Crestview, Fla., while his father was serving in the Air Force there. Being a military family, they have lived in several U.S. States and abroad in Japan. Rick resided in Red Wing, Minn., until the family moved to California in 1962.
Rick had a great sense of humor, and loved playing practical jokes. He also enjoyed barbecuing family meals, collecting and restoring antiques, camping, fishing, old cars, playing guitar and harmonica, and spending time with his children, family and friends.
Rick graduated from Ayer High School in 1975, and worked for the City of Los Altos for the past 21 years where he was employed as a maintenance technician.
Rick was the loving father of Kasey, Travis, and Dylan Alms; beloved son of Betty J. (Zorn) Alms-Johnson; wonderful brother of Jerry E. Alms, Roxanne M. (Alms) Schmitt, and John A. Alms; uncle of Melissa (Schmitt) Duckworth-Pinney, John Z. and Andrew Schmitt; great-uncle of James, Christopher and Emily Duckworth and John Z. Schmitt; nephew of Lawrence Beulah (Zorn) Wahlin, Alice (Zorn) Frie, Marvin Zorn, Mardella (Zorn) Arnold, and Curt Alms. Rick will be dearly missed by his many friends and co-workers.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald H. Alms; grandparents, John and Margaret (Biever) Zorn and Anton (Tony) and Cora Diercks Alms; and one nephew, Gregory L. Schmitt.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Dec. 26, at Spring Valley Bible Church, 220 S. Main St., Milpitas, CA 95035. A celebration of Rick's life was held after the services to honor his memory.
