The city of Red Wing has announced it will not declare a snow emergency over Christmas, even if there are heavy snowfalls Thursday and Friday as expected.

City officials said they decided in advance not to call a snow emergency because many residents will be out of town or will be hosting visitors who aren't familiar with Red Wing's snow emergency requirements. City streets will still be plowed if there's snowfall and city officials request that residents remove their vehicles from the streets if possible.

The following city parking lots can be used for overnight parking if people don't have off-street parking:

• City parking lot at Third and Plum streets

• City parking lot at Oak and Williams streets

• City parking lot off Bohmbach Drive near Athletic Field

• City parking area at the Tenth Street pump station

• Legion parking lot at West Fourth and Potter streets

• City parking area at East Fourth and Bluff streets

• LaGrange parking ramp on Bush Street

• Studebaker parking ramp on East Avenue and Main Street

• Fourth Street parking ramp
