Don’t stop dreaming

You can stop dreaming ... about a white Christmas, anyway.

You can stop dreaming ... about a white Christmas, anyway.

The National Weather Service assures us that the Hiawatha Valley will be snowy and bright. Everyone knew we'd have a white Christmas, of course, because the region got walloped a few days ago. Now we're bracing for another foot.

We won't have a true handle on how much snow we'll get, however, until we awake Christmas morning.

Fine by us. There's something magical about a Christmas snow.

Rather than grouse about the weather or the fact the forecasters can't get it "right," embrace the Christmas spirit. Take a few minutes to count your blessings and dream about the past, present and future.

This is a time to celebrate the birth of Jesus. It is a time to give thanks for God's gift to this world. Dream about world peace and what you can do to further it here at home.

This is also a time to share traditions — like making a Christmas angel in the newly fallen snow — and to dream up some new traditions.

While Christmas is a time of giving for family and friends, we encourage you to give to those in need -- helping them realize a dream or two, if you will.

Here are a few local organizations that could use your cash gift today or any of the 12 Days of Christmas ahead of us: Faith in Action, the Salvation Army, United Way of Goodhue, Wabasha & Pierce Counties and the area food shelves. They all do important and worthy work.

Regardless of where Christmas Day finds you, make this one like the ones you used to know.

From all of us at the Red Wing Republican Eagle, keep dreaming and have a very Merry Christmas.
