Red Wing City Council jumped Monday at a deal to buy land for a second fire station located on the west end of town near Highway 61.

Red Wing will move forward with a deal to buy 1.4 acres at the intersection of Moundview Drive and Highwoods Trail from Miles Development Corporation for $350,000 and the Minneapolis-based company will donate 1.2 adjacent acres to the city.

The council voted unanimously to pursue the deal after discussing it in closed session. The land sale is not final. The city’s attorney will now draft a purchase agreement.

Councilors said while Red Wing intends to buy the land they’re not looking to build a new station in the immediate future.

For more on the potential land sale see Wednesday’s edition of the R-E.
