Nov. 16, 2009

Edith E. Hanson, age 70, of Maiden Rock, Wis., went to be with the Lord on Monday, Nov. 16.

Edith was born the daughter of Vernon and Mathilda (Kaempf) Holt on August 30, 1939, in Red Wing, Minn. On Oct. 27, 1956, she married James W. Hanson at the Pepin Methodist Church.

Edith was an extraordinarily loving wife, mother who raised six children, and friend. She attended the New River Assembly of God Church in Red Wing, loved the Lord, had a caring and compassionate heart, and was always there for others. She loved nature and all of its beauty and would seize every opportunity to enjoy it, whether it was with a quiet walk, sitting on the river bank fishing, camping, feeding the birds, or just sitting next to a window looking outside. Edith was a woman of many talents whose hands were always busy, and she was always up for an adventure or a challenge.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Mathilda Holt; brother, Eldon Holt; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Harriet and Palmer Hanson; and brothers-in-law, Elwood Andrews and Ronald Helmueller.

Edith is survived by her husband, James Hanson of Maiden Rock; children, David (Faye) Hanson of Arkansaw, Wis., Lynn (Linda) Hanson of Hager City, Wis., Paul (Shelly) Hanson of Elmwood, Wis., Kim (Dan) Rice of Lino Lakes, Minn., Melissa (Troy) Klenke of Bay City, Wis., and Jennifer Johnson of Maiden Rock; grandsons, Timothy (Lindsey) Hanson, Ryan (Megan) Hanson, Erik (Staci) Hanson, Mitchell Goossens, Tyler Hanson, Marcus Goossens, and Cody Hanson; granddaughters, Jessica (Joe) Zitzman, Meghan Johnson, Caitlin Hanson, Mickenzie Klenke, and Abigail Klenke; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Knie, Hunter Hanson, Alyse Hanson, Olivia Zitzman and soon to be born baby Hanson; brothers and sisters, Clyde (Mabel) Holt, Norman (Flora) Holt, Inez (Lyle) Ross, Lois Andrews, Marshall (Sherry) Holt, Dorothy (Larry) Alkire, and Doris (Ray) Mogus; sister-in-law, Audrey Helmueller; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23, at the New River Assembly of God Church in Red Wing with Pastor Tom Johnson officiating. Memorial visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, at the Bakken-Young Funeral Home in Maiden Rock and from 10-11 a.m. Monday at the church. Spring interment will be in the Maiden Rock Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers are Edith's grandsons.
