John F. Furlong, 82, of Red Wing, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, at his home.

He was born April 9, 1927, in Hastings to John and Helen (Ryan) Furlong and graduated from Hastings High School. He married Shirley Girling on Sept. 17, 1955, in Rice Lake, Minn. He was a dairy farmer in Welch. After retiring from farming in 1997, he was employed at Treasure Island Casino. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Red Wing.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Red Wing; five children, Robert (Kathy) Furlong of Bay City, David Furlong of River Falls, Jacqueline Albarado of Red Wing, Dennis (Amy) Furlong of Welch, and Rodney (Kari) Furlong of Red Wing; two brothers, Thomas (Carrie) Furlong of Hastings and Jim (Barb) Furlong of New York, N.Y.; sister, Elizabeth Dimmer of St. Paul; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Stephen John Furlong, and his parents.

Funeral service was 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 20, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Miesville with Father Jay Kythe officiating. A private family burial at the church cemetery will be at a later date. Pallbearers were Stephen, Brian, Jerry, Billy, John, Cody and Scott Furlong and Michael Ault. Visitation was held 5-8 p.m. Thursday, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
