Alvie Albin Johnson, 87

Alvie Albin Johnson died Sunday, Nov. 15, at Fairview Seminary Home.

He was born Jan. 1, 1922, to Amil and Esther (Ellingson) Johnson. He attended Welch Country School through eighth grade and graduated from Red Wing Central High in 1940. He was in the Army Air Corps from 1942-1946. He married Shirley Gravos in Sept. 1950. He worked as a "Blue Ribbon" butter maker at the Welch creamery. He then worked at ADM until retiring in 1986. After retirement, he worked at the Welch Village Ski Area for many years.

He was a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church and was a Luther League Counselor for many years. He also drove the school bus in rural Welch for the Welch school. He was a lifelong member of the VFW and American Legion. He enjoyed skiing, fishing, traveling, and spending time with his family, especially at the cottage.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, and his children, Lonnie (Ronald) Drahos, Alan (Cynthia) Johnson, and Amy (Gene) Grams. He was devoted to his grandchildren who were the joy of his life: Elise, Aaron, and Brigitta Johnson, Amanda (Jeffrey) Hendrick, Jaclyn and Anthony Grams.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and sister, Mildred Johnson.

His memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church. The visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the service on Saturday at the church. Pastor Bob Albing will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Red Wing Environmental Learning Center/Bruce Ause Endowment Fund or Cross of Christ Lutheran Church.
