The newly upgraded Bench Street and County Road 1 in Red Wing will reopen to the public at 7:30 a.m. Thursday.
There will be a short ribbon cutting ceremony in front of S.B. Foot Tanning Co. Goodhue County Commissioner Ron Allen will speak.
The multi-million dollar project — $3 million total, including more than $1 million in federal stimulus dollars — focused on 1.4 miles of County Road 1/Bench Street from 285th Street to Featherstone Road and will complete a rebuilding of the road from Red Wing to White Rock.
The road has been closed to the public for several months. When it reopens this week it will be widened to three lanes near the tannery, allowing for safe turning into the business and onto Pioneer Road.
Tannery parking lots will also be moved onto the same side of the street so employees no longer need to walk across the busy stretch of road.
